DO State Licensing Eligibility

The Doctor of Osteopathic medicine program meets all curricular requirements for the conferral of the DO degree by national standards established by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). Students who complete the degree will be eligible for licensure in all 50 states based on the academic curriculum.

Specifically, the academic curriculum meets state licensing requirements in: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

However, students should be aware that following graduation, employment is not guaranteed, and each state has differing licensure requirements regarding number of attempts to pass board exams, residency training hours, continuing education credits, etc. Students should refer to each state’s licensing board’s website.
