Set in New York’s Hudson Valley, the Middletown campus of the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine offers a student-centered medical school experience rooted in its region’s healthcare community.
As the only medical school in Orange County, the campus is both an academic home for students and a point of pride for the city of Middletown. An annual tradition brings local families together with incoming students for shared meals before classes begin, and community members often attend graduation ceremonies at the Paramount Theater.
At TouroCOM Middletown, students build a strong academic foundation through hands-on learning, early clinical exposure, and close mentorship from faculty and community clinicians. Experiential initiatives like the Medicine & Horsemanship program help students strengthen nonverbal communication and patient-centered skills — core competencies in patient centered medical care.
A defining feature of the Middletown campus is the onsite Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Clinic — the only OMT clinic within a 30-mile radius — which maintains a steady waiting list of patients from New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Beginning in the first year, students can voluntarily observe patient care. As they progress, they’ll gradually take on more active roles under faculty supervision, with the option for extended rotations in the upper years.
“At TouroCOM Middletown, medical school isn’t separate from the community — it’s part of it. Our students train in the same healthcare system that serves the region every day.”
— Dr. Kenneth Steier, DO, Executive Dean and Chief Academic Officer of TouroCOM
Clinical Partnership with Garnet Health

Just minutes from campus, Garnet Health Medical Center provides a hospital-based training experience where students learn alongside residents and practicing physicians. With seven residency programs on site, students gain early exposure to the path from medical student to resident physician. Also unique to Middletown is the Chief Medical Student program, which gives third-year students the opportunity to lead, mentor peers, and serve as a liaison between their class and the medical education team.
Research Opportunities
Research is fully integrated into the Middletown experience. Students may work with faculty on research related to neurodegenerative disorders, public health and immunization trends, and the clinical impact of osteopathic manipulative treatment.
Our state-of-the-art facilities support hands-on investigation, including cell culture, molecular biology, microbiology, microscopy, and immunohistochemistry labs. The TouroCOM Middletown Research Incubator — a nearly 9,000-square-foot space where local research-focused businesses lease lab space and partner with faculty and students — includes specialized lab areas, dedicated 3D printing resources, and more.
“Middletown just feels like home. It’s a collaborative environment where our faculty know their students by name and students support one another every step of the way. Everyone genuinely wants to see each other succeed.”
— Dr. Angela Cavanna, DO, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Course Director of Clinical Systems

Our campus support team includes on-staff psychiatrist Dr. Biba Singh, DO, who serves as Psychiatry Clerkship Director at TouroCOM and as an attending physician in the Psychiatry Emergency Room at Garnet Health Medical Center. Her dual role strengthens the connection between student support, clinical education, and the broader healthcare community.
In addition, you have access to:
- A learning specialist and social worker for creating individualized support plans
- A Health & Wellness Center with stress-reduction programming
- Yoga, guided meditation, and therapy animal visits
- Wellness-focused clubs, committees, and community-building activities
Clubs and Organizations
With a range of student-led clubs and professional organizations, TouroCOM Middletown students have opportunities to explore clinical interests, develop leadership skills, and build community beyond the classroom.
Students join professional and academic groups like the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM), social clubs like the Book Club, and mission-driven groups like the Rural Health Club and Wilderness Medicine Club.
Career-focused organizations, including the Armed Forces Medical Club, offer additional pathways for students exploring service-based or military medicine careers. Together, these organizations reflect the breadth of interests and leadership opportunities available on the Middletown campus.
“Residents from Garnet Health come in and work with different student clubs to teach us how to approach real-life scenarios, which makes everything we’re learning feel more practical and connected.”
— Delia Fentazi (Class of 2029)
