About TouroCOM
At TouroCOM, technological innovation meets social responsibility, and a cutting-edge curriculum goes hand in hand with community outreach.
Since opening our doors in 2007, the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine has been attracting students and training physicians who are committed to helping patients and the medical profession. TouroCOM is equally committed to working to correct diversity disparities in our health care delivery system, so physicians can best meet patient needs.
The genuine desire to help people carries over into the way we interact as a community. The warmth and caring for each other is palpable as you walk our halls, study in our library, volunteer, advocate for our profession, mentor high school students, or join with fellow students at a health fair.
Leaders in Education
Our medical curriculum is one of the first of its kind to take full advantage of today’s medical and classroom technologies. Ours is a flipped classroom that allows students to learn the material at home and for professors to track the students’ grasp of the material in class. Better assessment means better outcomes, and our graduates find residencies and placements at top hospitals across the country.
Partners in the Community
Approximately 80% of our hospital affiliates target underserved communities in both rural and urban areas. In addition, our students are active advocates and outreach coordinators from Harlem and the Hudson Valley to Haiti and beyond.
Pioneers in Health Care
Our faculty are accomplished practitioners and researchers of osteopathic medicine. With access to newly constructed facilities and labs, faculty members are encouraged to pursue their own projects, many of which will change the lives of patients everywhere.
We are committed to carrying out our mission to heal people and communities, not just treat symptoms.
Active Students
Our students are smart, ambitious, and passionate. They come from all over and are as diverse as the populations we serve. They’ve proven their academic strength and are committed to careers in medicine and the privilege of providing for their communities.
TouroCOM students care; about each other, their communities, and those in need.
Strategic Plan
In the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018, TouroCOM administration, faculty, staff, and students met on numerous occasions, and identified nine strategic areas of focus for the updated strategic plan, these included: Academics, Alumni, Clinical, Community Service/Outreach, Facilities, Faculty Development, Fundraising, Research, and Student Services. Workgroups identified strengths, weaknesses, goals and tactics for each TouroCOM strategic direction over the next five years. The final plan sets forth the following five strategic goals:
- Enhance the Student Experience
- Deliver a High-Quality Education
- Grow the Clinical Environment
- Strengthen Community Ties
- Expand Research and Scholarly Activity
