The Touro University Pathologists’ Assistant curriculum meets the educational requirements to receive licensure in the state of New York. Please visit the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants (AAPA) website for a full list of states that have passed legislation to regulate the licensure of Pathologists’ Assistants.
Our program is among the first programs in New York State to meet the academic requirements for licensure as a Pathologists’ Assistant in accordance with Subpart 79-20 of the New York State Commissioner’s regulations and our graduates are eligible for PathA licensure. PathA license applicants must also meet additional requirements as outlined by the NYS Education Department.
The Touro University Pathologists’ Assistant curriculum meets the educational requirements to sit for a certification exam in all 50 states. Upon successful completion of the PathA program, students will be awarded a Master of Science in Pathologists’ Assistant Studies. The graduate is then eligible to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification Exam, which is taken through the ASCP.
Please note:
Acceptance into the Pathologists’ Assistant (PathA) Program is not a guarantee of licensure. Graduates must meet the requirements and standards of organizations or state licensing bodies.
Some authorities only recently passed laws requiring PathAs to be licensed and have not yet implemented an application system. In these cases, information regarding the regulatory law is available on the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants (AAPA) website. Touro cannot warrant or guarantee the accuracy of the information conveyed in the links above as the information is frequently being updated.
