Research at Middletown, NY Campus
The TouroCOM Middletown footprint is expanding its functionality as faculty establish research programs. We have a research incubator on campus where we lease space to small businesses with research agendas, support their development and foster collaborations with students and faculty.
Middletown Facilities
Cell Culture Facility
Our cell culture facility has a BSL-2 biological safety cabinet, CO2 incubator, refrigerated cell culture centrifuge, inverted microscope, liquid nitrogen cell storage tanks, -80°C freezer, and supports the establishment or propagation of cell cultures for investigators.
Molecular Biology and Immunohistochemistry Core
Our molecular biology room has all of the standard small laboratory equipment for day-to-day operations, plus an Azure Biosystems Gel Imager, Azure Cielo qPCR, Nanodrop, and Plate Readers. The adjoining IHC tissue processing and staining room contains a microtome, vibrating blade microtome, and chemical fume hood for sectioning and staining of tissue samples.
Microscopy
Our microscopy room has two Zeiss microscopes for epifluorescence or standard light microscopy, complete with digital cameras and software for image acquisition and processing.
Basic Microbiology
Our classical microbiology room has incubators, an autoclave, freezers and all the standard equipment for bacterial culturing that is used in basic microbiology research or modern molecular cloning applications.
3D Printing in Medicine Student Organization
Our student-led 3D Printing in Medicine group, equipped with multiple 3D printers (FDM and resin) across two dedicated campus rooms, drives and facilitates many ongoing studies as well as local community initiatives that greatly benefit from access to the unique components that only 3D printing can create in advancing medical research and innovation.
TouroCOM Middletown Research Incubator
In 2023 we established the TouroCOM Middletown Research Incubator, a nearly 9,000 sq ft space where local small businesses with research applications rent space, bringing exciting new projects to campus, and facilitating collaborations between faculty and students. The space includes an iso-7 level clean room, various laboratories and office spaces, a conference room, and a 3D printing room.
