Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine is pleased to announce the introduction of the Dr. Tracy Tam Memorial Alumni Award for Compassion.  The Award is in memory of Tracy Sin-Yee Tam, DO, TouroCOM Class of 2013, who died in the tragic shooting at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in June 2017.

The award will be presented annually to one second-year medical student at the College’s annual White Coat Ceremony. This year the ceremony will be held on May 10 at Columbia University - Roone Arledge Auditorium, Alfred Lerner Hall at 3 p.m.

Dr. Tam embodied the mission of TouroCOM through regular acts of kindness as a compassionate physician with a special commitment to the underserved.  She was beloved and respected by classmates, colleagues and mentors alike. TouroCOM seeks to uphold her legacy by recognizing a student who displays the characteristics that Dr. Tam demonstrated throughout her career.

In addition to her dedication to the underserved, exemplifying the mission of TouroCOM, Dr. Tam is remembered by faculty and friends as a quiet and serious student who worked hard and selflessly to care for others.

Nominations for the award were solicited from the OMS-II class and the recipient chosen by Dean Forstein after review of nominees by members of the Alumni Association Steering Committee. This year, the recommendation of an awardee will be made to the Dean by Dr. Shailee Udani, DO, TouroCOM Class of 2013. Dr. Udani was a close friend of Dr. Tam who is administering the review process.

Dr. Tam did her residency in family medicine at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, New Jersey.  She worked at Fulton Family Wellness Center, a clinic located on the ground floor of Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She was board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine and was a licensed physician in New York and New Jersey.
