Dr. Kenneth Steier Appointed to N.Y.S. Professional Medical Conduct Board
Founding Dean Appointed by Governor Cuomo and State Health Commissioner
New York, N.Y. – Dr. Kenneth J. Steier, Dean of the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) Middletown campus, has been appointed to the New York State Board for Professional Medical Conduct (PMC). The appointment was made by Governor Cuomo upon recommendation by the board and by state health commissioner, Dr. Howard Zucker.
The office of PMC investigates disciplinary issues involving physicians, physician assistants, and specialist assistants charged with professional misconduct.
Dr. Steier is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and has served as Associate Dean and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, as well as a Clinical Assistant Dean at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He holds master’s degrees in Public Health, Business Administration, Health Administration, and Geriatrics. Dr. Steier is also a Board Member of the Catskills Area Health Education Consortium and the Hudson Valley Health Education Development Consortium.
"I am so pleased to be appointed by Governor Cuomo to the New York State Physician Board for Professional Conduct,” said Dr. Steier. “Patients deserve medical care by competent professional physicians and this important organization investigates when complaints are registered. In addition, physicians deserve a fair hearing before an impartial peer group should complaints occur,” he added.
Dr. Steier has also been an accreditation surveyor for the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), a grant and peer reviewer for the Health Resources Services Administration and a consultant for the Food and Drug Administration. He is a frequent guest medical expert on CBS radio, News 4 New York, and News12 Long Island.
The term is for three years, ending on June 20, 2018.
