On Sunday, April 3rd, from 8:00AM-1:00PM, Catskill Hudson Area Health Education Center will present the Health Professions Seminar: Improving Healthcare for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Individuals, at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Middletown, NY.

This activity has been submitted to the PA State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours.  PA State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.  This seminar has been submitted for 4.0 contact hours and is pending AOA approval for CME.

Since many lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals are at an increased risk for a number of health issues while facing a multitude of treatment barriers, consideration of their healthcare needs should be addressed to eliminate healthcare disparities and improve health-related outcomes for this patient population. The purpose of this program is to provide an educational forum encompassing topics of relevance related to the LGBT patient population; to increase the knowledge base of healthcare providers and support staff caring for LGBT patients and families; and to encourage adoption of LGBT culture-friendly practices throughout the healthcare community.

The intended audience for this program is physicians, nurses, social workers and all other healthcare professionals (clinical or non-clinical) who provide health-related services to the LGBT patient population as topics will relate to both healthcare services as well as the patient care experience.
