TouroCOM - Harlem

Students consistently asked for information regarding decision making for 4th year electives, match strategies, and potential boards issues, both COMLEX and USMLE. The goals of the meeting is to make sure that all students understand the purpose of 4th year electives and role they play in choosing careers, residency choices, etc. That board scores can predict match results. That elective choices influence students, residency directors, DMEs, future practice patterns, and ongoing behavior.

Agenda and schedule for meeting:

8am - 8:15am Introduction by Bernard Lanter, MD

8:15am - 10:15am Organized ppts by TouroCOM OMS IV’s

Presenting on:

-My Rotation philosophy - tips to impress attendings and get solid LORs, how to behave during rotations, how to respond to pimping and challenging attendings and residents

-My study strategy - how I personally studied, if I took USMLE and COMLEX, how did you schedule those exams, and what worked for me

-My Residency application - information about the ERAS and the application process, what I wish I had known at the beginning

-My elective rotations and my OMS IV year - what I did during 4th year - away rotations, electives etc, and how I scheduled each one. This section should contain a quick month by month overview of where I went and how I scheduled each elective, and what I would do differently if anything

-My specialty - what Iam applying for, what was important during my residency interviews, what kinds of scores and qualifications are needed to be competitive in your specialty.

At the end of all the 4th year student presentations, there will be a Q&A where specific questions can be directed to the individual 4th year students about their presentation or specialty.
