Jerome Castellano, DO
Class of 2011
Jerome Castellano was a member of the TouroCOM pioneer Class of 2011. Prior to medical, school he had a successful career in physical therapy. He continued his medical education by attending TouroCOM, went on to a residency in PM&R at NYU/Rusk Rehabilitation, and later took a position with the VA Healthcare System in Brooklyn.
Jerome had an optimistic and humble personality, even throughout his courageous fight against cancer. He was an avid runner, film buff, traveler and foodie. He hailed from Queens and had great pride in the borough. Jerome is remembered by the class of 2011 as a friend to all, who was always up for finding the best food and fun New York City had to offer. He loved sharing the depths of his knowledge of the NYC food scene by taking us to hidden gems that we would have never explored on our own: Bensonhurst for Lioni's Italian heroes and fresh mozzarella, and L&B Spumoni Gardens in Gravesend for arguably the best Sicilian slice of pizza in NYC.
Jerome embodied the mission of TouroCOM through his daily display of kindness and hard work with a special commitment to the Veteran community. During his residency at NYU/Rusk Rehabilitation, Jerome stood out amongst his peers for his humor, compassion, and selflessness.
He was also known for his ability to gather a group of residents for karaoke. On occasion, he even took the party on the road by bringing his own karaoke machine when traveling for annual AAPM&R meetings.
Jerome had a genuine enthusiasm for his job as a physician as evidenced by his positive attitude and work ethic. He was always one of the first to arrive in the mornings and did not leave until his work was completed. In addition to his knowledge and performance, Jerome was known for being warm and engaging with patients as a resident and later as an attending physician at the Brooklyn VA Hospital.
He was a loyal friend and colleague who remains deeply admired by his co-residents, faculty, and staff.
