“I Want to Be the Bridge Between Patients and Families”

Mili Shah traces her interest in medicine to two incidents. As a child, she was dragged to doctor appointments with her brother who suffered from asthma and allergies. Later, in high school, her grandfather fell into a coma. “He was in a coma for quite some time and there was a lot of back-and-forth while we took care of him,” said Shah. “There was a lot of trust between the physicians and our family. I saw that and wanted to be that bridge between patients and families.” (Her grandfather eventually woke up from his coma and lived for an additional two-and-a-half years.) Shah did both her undergraduate degree and master’s in biomedical science in Stony Brook University. “I am interested in something endocrine related or OBGYN,” said Shah. “I think I’m most excited to be with people who have the same motivation as me and want to give back to community and provide care to the underserved.”

Shah is classically trained in Bharatanatgym, a Southeast Asian dance. She recently completed her arangetram which is a final dance recital that enables her to teach others.
