Nishat Ananya emigrated with her family from Bangladesh in 2008 and was raised in the Bronx. She majored in biology and sociology at Stonybrook University.

Part of my decision to become an osteopathic physician was related to what I learned in sociology,” Ananya explained. “People overlook how much of healthcare is dependent on other factors like access to care and financial considerations. Everything overlaps. Osteopathic physicians are trained to look at the whole picture.” TouroCOM’s mission of serving the underserved also resonated with her own experience growing up in the Bronx, which she said was underserved. “That pushed me into medicine,” said Ananya.

Favorite Book: Ananya’s favorite book is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and she tries to reread it each year.
