Shanice Samuels

When her grandmother had open heart-surgery, Shanice Samuels found herself spending a lot of time in the hospital. “It sparked my interest,” she said.
After her grandmother recovered, Samuels began volunteering at several local hospitals. Samuels, a native of Queens, graduated from Hunter College with a degree in psychology in 2016. “The brain interests me,” said Samuels. She worked throughout her undergraduate days as a file clerk in a doctor’s office and then a receptionist in another physician’s office. Samuels shadowed both an osteopathic physician and an MD physician before deciding to study osteopathic medicine. “I really liked the interactions the osteopathic physician had with her patients.”
Fun Fact: In her free time, Samuels can be found setting up photo shoots for her friends or cooking lavish meals (her best dish? Curry chicken with rice).
