Dr. Colbourne is a physician, TouroCOM faculty, emergency paramedic, medical simulation instructor, simulation specialist and coordinator. Dr. Colbourne received his BS degree from SUNY Brockport and post baccalaureate training at Columbia University. He graduated from Ross University School of medicine with his Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Colbourne was trained by the Institute of Emergency Care at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in NYC as an AEMT4-Paramedic. He received training as a simulation instructor from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. Dr. Colbourne has been trained by Laerdal Medical and Gaumard Scientific in the operation and programming of 5 of their high fidelity medical robotic systems.
Dr. Colbourne has 34 years of hospital, pre-hospital, emergency, trauma and critical care experience. He is presently the Interim Director of Medical Simulation, Simulation Specialist and Coordinator for the TouroCOM Simulation Center and the 2nd year Medical Simulation Course. He is a passionate and animated lecturer teaching cardiology, pulmonary medicine, physical diagnosis, early clinical experience, and medical simulation at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harlem NYC. His passion for teaching medicine and inspiring students has earned him the title of the Frank Gray “Teacher of the Year” Award for 2016.
Dr. Colbourne has designed and built the TouroCOM Advanced Simulation Center that provides simulation training and experience to 2nd year medical students. The simulation center also provides high school and college students the opportunity to experience medical simulation and be inspired to aspire.
In addition to inspiring students at TouroCOM, Dr. Colbourne has the passion to inspire youth and the disadvantaged to follow their career dreams. This has led him to be the primary speaker at hospitals, high schools, colleges, churches, community events, and career days. Dr. Colbourne delivers the message that despite your present situation “You Can. With a Plan” reach your career goals.
Dr. Colbourne is an American Heart Association instructor for BCLS, ACLS, PALS, and ACLS–EP. He is also an Instructor Trainer for ACLS-EP. Dr. Colbourne instructs these courses to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical students, paramedics, and respiratory therapists with MedCon Associates LLC. Dr. Colbourne maintains his pre-hospital paramedic skills by riding 16 hours per weekend in the NYC 911 system with Flushing Hospital Medical Center Medysis Systems. He also trains paramedics with the same institution.
