This past summer, Nasir Malim was selected as one of two medical student summer interns for the University of Chicago’s Islamic Bioethics summer internship. The program, conducted through the medical school’s Initiative on Islam and Medicine, was directed under the mentorship of Dr. Aasim Padela, one of the current leaders of Islamic Bioethics in America.

After spending a few overnights at the Warming Station (a temporary winter shelter for the homeless, located in a church), Rebecca noticed that its residents lacked basic health information about themselves – “things like allergies, last blood pressure, eyesight, etc.” She began to ask around to see if there was a place that they had access to in order to get this information, and found that there was none.

First- and second-year osteopathic medical students at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM)-Middletown had a group of unusual patients last week: horses. In conjunction with Raven Hill Farms and Equi-Power Solutions (an equine experiential learning program for professional development), the students participated in a Medicine and Horsemanship program that taught them how to improve their nonverbal communication, using the animals as their guides.
