The process of educating and molding a new osteopathic physician is a continuum that starts during medical school and progresses through residency training. Many times there is a disconnect between the UME and GME arms of medical education. Does the student physician have the necessary foundation of knowledge and skills necessary to progress to the clinical level as an extern or as a postgraduate trainee? What are the NYCOMEC Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine doing well and what can be improved in the curriculum to help produce a better physician. TouroCOM’s very own Dr. Stephen Jones & Dr. Arthur Prancan will be speaking at this program.

(starting immediately following the NYCOMEC GMEC Meeting)

Presenting:
William Blazey, D.O., Assistant Dean, NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, Old Westbury, NY

Andrea Reed, D.O., Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AK

Stephen Jones, PhD., Assistant Preclinical Dean, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Middletown, NY

Arthur Prancan, PhD., Preclinical Dean, Associate Professor of Physiology and Pharmacology, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Harlem, NY

During this session there will be:
-A brief overview of the curricula at NYIT COM (Old Westbury and Jonesboro) and TouroCOM (Harlem and Middletown).
-Discussion between UME and GME educators of NYCOMEC affiliates about the strengths and weaknesses of the student when they enter their clinical training years.
-Dialogue between UME and GME educators regarding attainment of core expectations upon graduation from undergraduate osteopathic medical education for improved transition to residency.
