TouroCOM Harlem Class of 2022 Member Sally Anna Bazelais

Sallyanna Bazelais graduated from Queens College in 2016 with a bio major and a minor in cultural anthropology. “Medicine started out as a dream for me,” said Bazelais.

She did an internship as an emergency medicine research assistant at Northwell Health during college. Bazelais believes that her minor in cultural anthropology will help her as a physician. “My classes taught me about the importance of being culturally competent,” she explained. Bazelais said that the lack of black women in medicine was discouraging to her, but shadowing black female practitioners kept her spirits up. “There are not a lot of people like me that go into medicine,” she said. “But I’m hoping to change that.” Bazelais is a graduate of the TouroCOM master’s program.

Fun Fact: Bazelais can understand both French and Creole. She also powerlifts.
