Joshua Kolb, of New Jersey, said that he initially wasn’t so interested in medicine until a friend’s interest in the field sparked his own.

“He brought up the idea with me and then I thought to myself: It’s a profession where I get to help people, where I’ll be challenged every day, and where I can express my love of science,” recalled Kolb. “It was everything I wanted in one field.” He graduated from Queens College in 2015 with a degree in psychology. Why did he choose TouroCOM Middletown? “I’m Jewish and the idea of going to a Jewish school is important to me,” Kolb said, “It’s very different when a school understands what being religious entails. I can’t count how many times I missed classes because of Shabbat and holidays. Not having to worry about being a religious Jew was a big deal for me.” Kolb debated between an MD program and a DO program. “They each had their own philosophy and I felt that the camaraderie I saw in the DO students was more suited to my personality.”

Fun Fact: Kolb’s met his wife through a blind date that was set up by his mother.
