Kari Tabag, LCSW-R, CCTP
Mental Health Counselor and Director of Wellness, Department of Student Services
Prior to arriving at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ms. Tabag served as a school social worker in public education for over 12 years. She also served as a supervisor for Clinical Social Workers working with adolescents and families. Via her expertise as a psychotherapist specializing in working with adolescents, college students, young adults and families, she followed her passion into higher education.
As the Director of Wellness, Ms. Tabag has an extensive background in health and fitness. She is a Certified Holistic Health Counselor, Personal Trainer, Specialist in Exercise Therapy, and Spinning Instructor. She is also an avid cyclist and swimmer, and has competed in triathlons and 5K’s.
She has been published in articles, been on the radio, and has written a chapter about changes in the DSM-5 and the omission of Asperger’s Disorder.
Ms. Tabag is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York and Florida. She is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from The University of Florida, and graduated with her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Adelphi University in 1997.
Social Work Professor with Adelphi University School of Social Work, and is a guest lecturer for TouroCOM in Professionalism, Study Skills, Behavioral Medicine, and Cultural Competency. For the past 5 years, Ms. Tabag implements and manages the clinical Social Work intern program at TouroCOM.
Areas of ResearchMs. Tabag is currently working towards her Ph.D. in Social Work. Her focus of study centers on working with diverse populations, and advocating for social and racial justice.
